Fortieth Birthday Post #18: The Best Day to Celebrate a Birthday is July 3

Here is my argument as to why July 3 is the best day to have as a birthday.

So there are only three days in the calendar year when you are guaranteed that the day after your birthday is a holiday. This is important because who wants to celebrate one's birthday worrying about when one has to get up for work the next morning?

The three days are today, December 24, and December 31.

Most people with Christmas Eve birthdays acknowledge that they get gypped on gifts, or get the combined holiday/birthday gift. And no one wants to sing "Happy Birthday," they're all singing carols. It's never about you, it's about "the season".

The other day is New Year's Eve, December 31. Sure, EVERYBODY'S partying. But if you're single, what pressure! Not only do you have the pressure to get a date on New Year's Eve, but also pressure to get a date for your birthday. Your birthday is an afterthought.

Plus, you run the risk of confusing people. Wait, do we start celebrating your birthday after the ball drops, or before?

And, your chances of stepping in someone else's vomit greatly increase on New Year's Eve, and that ruins any birthday.

So, July 3rd is the winner. Best birthday. No work tomorrow, and maybe, if you're lucky, you get some fireworks as well.

Oh, and no one has ever frozen to death on July 3rd. Christmas Eve and New Years Eve have much greater risks.
