T-Shirts I Have Known: That Metal Show

This is one of my favorite gifts from my older daughter, Jolee. Unprompted, she bought this shirt from me back when VH1 Classic was still airing episodes of That Metal Show.

The show has been "off the air" for almost three years now, but I really credit the show for my rebounding interest in metal.

I did wear this to the Iron Maiden show last summer.

This t-shirt is still in rotation in the closet.

T-Shirts I Have Known: Sriracha

Here I am enjoying a beer and wearing one of my new favorite t-shirts:

This is the shirt in it's full unobscured glory:

I nabbed it at a thrift shop, but it is a-plentiful and can be purchased at Amazon here.

I love hot sauce and sriracha is pretty darn tasty.

My only complaint about this shirt is that it's not uncommon to see other people wearing it.

T-Shirts I Have Known: Detroit Tigers, ALCS Champions 2012

I am a Detroit Tigers fan and I still remember fondly the 1984 World Series, when Motown last won a baseball title.

This thrift shop find is in my current circulation, and marks the last time the Tigers went to the Fall Classic.

Alas, they were mercilessly swept by the Giants.

In the 2012 ALCS, however, Detroit swept the Yankees, which caused much chagrin in my home.

This baby is currently a bit snug, but it still brings back fond memories of winning!

T-Shirts I Have Known: Metal Up Your Ass

I like to use this photo to prove to people I was a Metallica fan before they became a monster band:

That's me at some random hotel in Waikiki on May 18, 1985, after my senior prom date ditched me. I outgrew this shirt in a year or two from when this was taken. Recently, an old classmate sent me this photo on Facebook, and I am guessing it was taken maybe a month later.

This was the first Metallica "Metal Up Your Ass" shirt before this one really took off:

I remember thinking the original was so scandalous. I would have been suspended if I had worn it to school. It seemed appropriate party gear after shedding the tuxedo.

T-Shirts I Have Known: Kaua'i Fire Department

This was only in my wardrobe for a short time. I think I wore it once. It might have been a large tee that I grew out of. If memory serves me, I found it in a thrift shop in Rhode Island while driving to Boston for a college trip. It seemed remarkable that a KFD shirt would end up in Providence. It may still be stuck in one of my drawers, but I think it was sent back into the donation bin when I realized I never wore it.

T-Shirts I Have Known: Tofu Kills People

This is not my t-shirt, but I snapped a picture of it years ago at the 5th Avenue Festival in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn:

I took it to show my friend Chris, who has gone by the nickname "Tofu" since college. It popped up in my social media feed because it is Chris' birthday, and so it seemed fitting to post here today.

I would love to have this shirt, but it is selling for $88 on eBay and, honestly, I don't want it THAT much.

The shirt originates from Thai conceptual artist Rirkrit Tiravanija. According to an article at Wired (here):
Rirkrit Tiravanija's goodie bag for attendees contained a shirt that said "Tofu kills people," a reference to an inside joke after a guest in a pop-up kitchen announced the statement to a crowd.

T-Shirts I Have Known: I Think Therefore I Spam

This baby is running a little small, so it is in the reserve collection. It's pretty self-evident.

T-Shirts I Have Known: Bern! Bern! Bern!

This is still in the collection, but most likely won't be worn any time soon. The wounds are still too fresh.

T-Shirts I Have Known: Jews Kick Ass

This photo, of me and my brother, is still in my collection. I generally don't wear it often outside, for fear of someone taking it the wrong way. Nothing of note has happened to date.

In case you were wondering, the ass-kicking Jews on this shirt are Henry Winkler as Arthur Fonzarelli, Albert Einstein, and Sammy Davis, Jr., in the top row. Also, Jesus, William Shatner, and Bob Dylan in the bottom row.

T-Shirts I Have Known: The Clash

I currently own this Clash shirt:

I have had this for several years, but have only worn it a handful of times.

I'm fairly certain my wife got this for me at H&M, and they seem to have sold a similar version recently.

The shirt has an odd cut on the neckline (not visible above), but it's a comfy wear around the house. There seem to be a lot of varieties of this shirt, but nothing exactly like it readily available online.

T-Shirts I Have Known - Nirvana

For no other reason than "because," I am sharing my t-shirt collection here.

This is the first post in this series.

Perhaps someday I will look back and sigh, "Oh, I miss that shirt!"

Perhaps I will share other t-shirts not belonging to me.

This is a Nirvana shirt I found in early 2017 at a thrift shop in Baltimore.

Most Nirvana shirts you see are the ones with the sick smiley face on them.

I thought this guitar one was cool and original.

I just searched, however, and discovered this can be bought at Wal-Mart online for $13.90. Oh well, the cool factor just dropped a little.

Generally, this is a sleep shirt.

This concludes the inaugural t-shirt post on Billyblog.

Funny Shirt

Just saw a woman wearing a t-shirt that read " I PUT THE FUN IN FUNERAL".
