Postscript

We last went to Camden Yards on August 6, 2006. See my post here. (BillyBlog is a handy resource, too). The score was the same way back then, 6-1, only the numbers were flipped - the Yanks had six and the O's had one.

We are back on the road, heading North. Hope everyone had a happy Memorial Day!

Game Over, Dude

Despite a flutter of offense (the Yanks scored 1 in the top of the 9th), the Orioles prevail 6-1.

Seventh Inning

LaTroy Hawkins comes in for the Yankees in relief and can't do it. Melvin Mora singles with men on and 2 out and knocks in a run. They pull Hawkins and bring in Jose Veras to face Nick Markakis who singles the first pitch into center, giving the O's a 3-0 lead. Then Aubrey Huff hits a 3-run blast to right-center. All of a sudden, it's 6-nothing Baltimore. The inning ends mercifullly after Luke Scott flies out to right.

Bottom of the 6th

And Nick Markakis of the Orioles just launched a 400+ foot home run to dead center. 1-0 Orioles. Aubrey Huff follows with a double. Pitching duel officially over!

Update from Camden Yards

A little excitement in the top of the 3rd. Johnny Damon thrown out at home to end the half-inning after Hideki Matsui got his second hit of the game.

Bottom of the fifth, still no score.

Free Enterprise at Camden Yards

The people I'm sitting next to, Yankee fans from Jersey just informed me that the ticket I bought, legally, was sold to the guy who sold it to me, for $20.

They sold it to him on the street and he turned it over at face value for a nice profit. He actually charged me 2 bucks extra, but I wasn't going to squabble. Especially since Grandpa paid $40 of the cost (and drove us down here). Thanks Barry!

Hot Yards

It's a beautiful sunny day here at Camden Yards. The fam is with Grandpa down in a field box, six rows behind the Yankee dugout. Camden has a "scalp-free zone" where you can buy face value tickets. Grandpa paid 4/5 of my seat, front row of the Club Level, right above (and back) from the rest of the gang.

Granted, I am not as close as the others, but there are pretty sweet seats. Look me up (section 246, row AA. Seat 10.

Good Morning, Baltimore...

We have arrived in Baltimore and are mulling about the lobby of the Marriott near the ballpark. Waiting for our party of fifteen (still waiting for ten more) to have brunch at Cafe Promenade. The place is teeming with Yankee fans.

Since the Yanks are not playing the Tigers, I am officially a Bronx Bomber fan today, in my Reyn Spooner Yankee "aloha" shirt, and a borrowed Yankee cap from my beloved wife, Melanie. Shayna informed me that I was not allowed to wear my Tigers hat, although wearing the
colors of two last-place teams (okay, the Tigers are tied for last and the Yankees are only a half-game from last. If they lose today, they'll take it back) seems ironic.

Is it irony? Perhaps not. By the way, great article ("Exposed" by Emily Gould) in today's Sunday NY Times about blogging and the separation between the public and the private. I read it on the way down in the car. There's even a bit of tattoo in it.

Live Blogging Memorial Day

We are in Grandpa Barry's rental car, driving south. Destination: Camden Yards. The Yankees are playing the Orioles and Gramps is treating us all to the game.

Yesterday, we all saw Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Shayna proclaimed it "Awesome". Jolee liked it. She said it was better than the second and third, but tied with the first.

I would give it a thumbs up, although I would rank it third in the series, ahead of the Temple of Doom.

A big thanks to the two ridiculously annoying women sitting next to me in the theater who provided the running commentary for the mentally-challenged.
But that's why we go to the movies now, isn't it?

Signing off for now from the New Jersey turnpike.

Sick Day

At the pediatrician's office with a sick nine-year old. The waiting room is crowded and we have been here over an hour and, to quote the film Repo Man, "the lights are growing dim...".

A little girl is shrilly playing despite repeated requests from her father to "lower your voice". Every so often she calls out "Fire in the Hole!" much to my amusement.

After two hours waiting, we learn that the nine-year old has Strep throat.

Liveblogging Two Twenty-Two, Heading Home

The snow has stopped and we are on a downtown B train headed home. The Museum of Natural History rarely fails to disappoint.

IMAX film on dinosaurs was fascinating, and finding a $10 bill sticking out of an empty seat after the lights went up and the majority of the audience had left was icing on the cake (google "Luck of the Cohanim" and see what you find).

The Water exhibit was interesting and we enjoyed the Planetarium, as well as the halls of mammals, marine life, and dinosaurs.

Have a good weekend.....

Liveblogging Two Twenty-Two, Continued

(Later)

Butterfly exhibit at the museum. Always a treat, moreso when you enter the hunid chamber filled with floating colorful creatures and it is cold and snowing outside.

Here are butterflies.....photos taken by Bill, Jolee, and Shayna Cohen

Liveblogging Two Twenty-Two

It is snowing in New York City. I already had a scheduled day off, so I am not inconvenienced by the snow, merely in awe of it. This is our first real significant snowfall this season (and February almost over). It has snowed, but in minimal quantities. What was predicted last night as 2 to 4 inches in the city has swelled to a 6 to 9-inch estimate.

I am writing now from the R train. Jolee, Shayna and I are going to Manhattan. The American Museum of Natural History is our destination. They were supposed to go on Monday, but the plans didn't materialize as expected. I am wondering, with the snowfall, if the museum will be crowded or suffer the ill effects of inclement weather on attendance.

The Today show sadistically broadcasted this morning from Miami Beach.

At 36th Street I saw a yellow train marked "DE-ICER CAR". Makes sense, but I have never seen one of those before. We switched over to an N train.

We recently sent out our annual family newsletter. 2 months late, or ten months early, depending on your perspective. I welcome all those new visitors who may have seen the BillyBlog plug in our family newsletter.

It's not always like this, but then again, sometimes it is.

I may post more today from the Museum, if I can.

Signing off for now.

The Ozzman cometh!

He opened with "Bark at the Moon".

Ozzfest and Lamb of God

Lamb of God just performed "Walk with Me in Hell". They have to be the heaviest band I have ever seen. Holy cr

Update: Here's a self-portrait during Lamb of God. It may look blurry, but that is how my innards felt....

Here's a clip I took from Lamb of God. Thank heavens I used my earplugs after the Static-X set!

Static-X

Has tons of fans here. Now doing their song "Cold" from the Queen of the Damned soundtrack......

Here's another clip, performing "I'm With Stupid":

Ozzfest Update: Static-X

Static-X has taken the stage, much to the delight of all the Lordi-haters. During Lordi's finale of "Hard Rock Hallelujah!", a woman sat down 3 rows in front of me with a New York Yankees tattoo on her back.

"Hmmm. I think I recognize that tattoo. Well, hey, Melanie's cousin Beth is here!" As David Lee Roth once told me, "Small f@cking world, ain't it?"

Wow. Static-X is making my ears bleed.

Here's them performing "Cannibal":

Here's a sample from my camera:

Ozzfest update: more Lordi

Lead singer is holding a smoking skull while they perform "They Only Come Out at Night"!

Ozzfest Update - Lordi!

Lordi has taken the main stage. They opened with their anthem "Bringing Back the Balls to Rock".

These guys are nuts. KISS meets GWAR, with a little dash of ABBA.

They were decent seats, but here's some more detail:

Lordi's definitely big on pyrotechnics.

Here's a short YouTube clip of them performing "Who's Your Daddy?":
